Match Ups
Zoo 50/50: Here you want to press for board control. Try to make your trades as favorable as possible. You have to play the game of attrition and ideally you want them to have an empty board state where cards like Abusive Sergeant and Power Overwhelming are pretty much dead in hand.
Aggro Shaman/Midrange Shaman 60/40: The aim of the game here is yet again board control. You want to answer cheap minions efficiently, forcing them into a corner where their bigger threats are used for trading instead of mindlessly going face. Dire Wolf Alpha and Defender of Argus placement are key as most of your minions can easily die to their removal. You also want to play around Lightning Storm. Try not to commit too much to the board if you can help it against the midrange version. Aggro shaman doesn't normally run any wrath, so they'll have a harder time answering all of your threats.
Druid 60/40: This match up is pretty good for Zoo because your early game is better than their's most of the time and they'll be stuck trying to play catch up. Just watch out for swipe because it can turn the game around quickly or if they are able to commit a lot of taunts early on with innervate.
Miracle Rogue 70/30: From my experience, this match up was amazing. Place minions in proper positions for Defender of Argus while avoiding Fan of Knives by keeping solid toughness minions on the board. If Darkshire Councilman lives long enough to go to combat, proper extensions can almost always end the game for your opponent.
Deathrattle Rogue 40/60: This match up requires a lot of favorable trading. Treat it like the zoo match up. The sooner you keep the board clear, the better. If they see a solid spread, you'll find yourself having to do unfavorable trades to stem the bleeding.
Hunter midrange/aggro 100/0: I didn't lose to any hunters playing this deck but I think I only ran into about 2 or 3 so the 100/0 rating is literally just based on my experience. It's probably more like 70/30 realistically but I was able to trade well with ease and they were just too far behind. Never saw explosive trap out of all of these games so that probably had a lot to do with my success, but always be mindful of it.
Tempo Mage 60/40: Zoo is still a pretty bad match up for tempo mage. With Abusive Sergeant, it's usually pretty easy to deal with the few early game minions that they do have and they'll usually end up using a lot of their spells to try and control you board. Watch out for Flamewaker here and deal with it as soon as possible.
Priest 30/70: Hope for the best.
Control Warrior 35/55: Slightly better than priest but still tough.
Reno/Freeze Mage 30/70: Hope for the best.
Paladin ?: Didn't play any to make an assessment.
Mulligans
You want to see your early game minions like Flame Imp, Possessed Villager, Voidwalker, Dark Peddler, Knife Juggler, Argent Squire, etc against pretty much everything.
On coin you want to see all of the above plus Darkshire Councilman or Imp Gang Boss.
Card Choices
Forbidden Ritual is amazing and has awesome synergy with Darkshire Councilman, Knife Juggler and helps tremendously with dropping a free Sea Giant. Oh and can't forget Gormok the Impaler!
Darkshire Councilman Bruh....
Leeroy Jenkins I like this guy better than Doomguard because that 1 extra point can make all of the difference and I don't have to risk discarding cards I want to keep.
Gormok the Impaler I feel like this guy is a lot easier to pull off in this version of zoo because of cards like Bilefin Tidehunter and Forbidden Ritual but a good replacement would be Dark Iron Dwarf if you just aren't feeling him. Personally I don't like trading minions if I don't have to.
Argent Squire I decided to do the one of for her instead of the second Bilefin Tidehunter since she makes for really good trading most times.
Bilefine Tidehunter Nice little 2 for 1 value card. That taunt can be irritating for some decks and it has good synergy with the Darkshire Councilman.
Please leave feedback and let me know what you guys think! Sorry I wasn't able to use youtube to upload the video. My internet is so horrible I had to get a friend help me make a short video but it's better than nothing I suppose. :p Also feel free to add me finalmode#1567. I love having more play testing partners to swap ideas with. :D Love you guys. <3
My list is almost identical, but with these differences:
-1 Argent Squire
-1 Bilefin Tidehunter
+1 Dire Wolf Alpha (can't really get why you are playing only 1.. ok, it's dependent of having some board, but it's SO strong)
+1 Soul Fire
I'm using soulfire as an extra reach. Just one, in order to reach beyond taunts or for helping Jenkins in reaching lethal. I feel like it really helps against C'Thun decks, and druid in particular, to seal the deal when they are becomeing dangerous. It plays nicely in the midgame too, for spot removal (as a sort of third PO). Do you think it's overkill, or running this singleton makes sense for you?
Overall, I would really like to find space for 2x Bilefin, since they really shine with Brann, Gormok, Juggler, Councilmen and Giants.. but I just cannot find the space for them!! Flame Jugglers seem nice too, especially for zoo mirrors, but still no space...
What do you think about the two minions above?
Very cool deck indeed! :)
Thanks for sharing it with us all
No problem dude! Good luck on ladder :D
This is the list I prefer to run and I'm seeing a lot more zoo / aggro shaman now that it's beginning of new season so I -1 Argent Squire / +1 Shadowflame.
I know Zoo is all about board control, but the Shadowflame has come in handy a few times. I've also ran this -1 Argent Squire / +1 Cult Master
I saw someone tech hellfire the other day in zoo. o.0 Probably for patron match up. lol
I've honestly never tried it in zoo, but I think it might be a bit too costly. Usually things like abusive and PO are enough to take care of big threats. You want to have more mana available to keep making overwhelming boards and I think it would be really inconvenient to see it earlier than turn six.
You could try dark iron or doom guard but I think at least 1 giant is necessary if you can craft it.
Ive been running a deck almost similiar to this. Though i have no love for argent squire due to possessed villiger doing its job better. I found direwolf 2 of being a almost must. Brann isnt a must card but they MUST answer him and it diverts attention away from your board state. Because the fear of Argus or 8 dmg from gormok is crazy.
I only run 1 sea giant. I may be wrong in this but i swear when i get a giant he does nothing for me. I want my big minions to impact the board right away. my list is a mirror image of yours cept
-1 squire
-1 Sea giant
+1 Doomguard
+1 wolf
The thing ive noticed is all Zoo and Shaman aggro lists are 26 cards identical and 4 cards their preference. So there is no wrong way imo
If you dont own Leeroy go Doomguard
If you dont own Brann Play another sticky minion or Iron Dwarf
If you dont own Gormok then play Iron Dwarf
People are playing Spawn which i think is decent but its a cute card. Any card i look at that goes "IF this works its great"
Warlock runs too many good cards that they dont need to run an "IF" card.
Goodluck people. ZooLock for life!
I agree about the spawn. It just felt like a really bad dark cultist. :(
I actually got a bit passionate about the spawn sinceI find his effect really cool. However after weeks of testing I must agree, it's somewhat difficult to pull of and can be an inefficient play, something you could've avoided with another card. So sadly it seems like you're right, swapping spawn out seems to be the way to go
I've been wondering that myself. I certainly don't like seeing him turn 1 when I'm not on coin. He's good with cards like bilefin, dark peddler and abusive, but maybe it'd be better if he were a second bilefin, argent squire, or dire wolf. Just have to mess around with it I suppose.
Good stuff man! I just added a video if you wanna check it out. :)
Hmm, I'm having problems with druids at rank 5. Thinking of teching Black knight, but i feel like it might be way too slow. ANy thoughts?
I agree. I think Black Knight would be a bit too slow. I'm not sure what to recommend though because druid didn't seem to be that big of a problem.
Thanks for your reply, Ill just keep on playing ! :)
Gormok replacements?
Dark iron dwarf would be a solid replacement.
Wow that was quick
thanks
