Hello everyone. I would like to share with you a very unusual priest deck that I have easily reached legend this season with. First and foremost, this build is designed to win against every slow deck, while still being strong versus tempo and aggro. The only dead matchup is miracle rogue.
The basic idea of the deck is to abandon basic elements of the early game and draw potential of standard control priest (Northshire Cleric, Power Word: Shield, Wild Pyromancer, Injured Blademaster) in favor of additional value cards (Thoughtsteal, Museum Curator, Shifting Shade) and removals. The early game consists of Shadow Word: Pain and Doomsayer, one of the strongest 2-mana control drops in standard. Thus we get extremly powerful deck for a long distance, crushing any archetype in the late game, EVEN JARAXUS. Value potential of the cards is incredibly huge.
So, the reason why I decided to cut the Northshire Cleric ,Power Word: Shield, Wild Pyromancer and Injured Blademaster is very simple – they are not as reliably good as before. In current meta classic control priest tools often cannot find a good moment to be used. Another crucial point is we mostly don't want to use Circle of Healing for anything other than board clear. Also all these cards don't work well with Excavated Evil which is as close to a decent AOE removal as we can get since priest loses Lightbomb.
Cleric - Nowadays aggro decks don't use 1hp 1mana drops like lepergnom or webspinners, instead of them are totem golems and troggs. Mainly the only way we draws cards with this card is combo pyro+circle, but if we give up circle that way, there is a solid chance that we will not be able to clear board in the future because priest doesn't have lightbombs anymore. Against control decks like pally or warrior we don't want to draw cards much, because most of time it will ends with fatigue war. Only versus zoo northshire cleric is pretty valuable.
Pyro- without cleric this card is much weaker and classic combo pyro+PWS+PWS is not as strong as before. Same situation - very strong card only versus zoo.
Injured Blademaster- That card is not very relyable and often requiers circle, which is very important for auchenau combo. Againts aggro it's really do nothing most of time.
Explanation for some cards:
Shadow Word: Pain – very strong removal in standard. It finds the target in every matchup: Totem Golem, Tunnel Trogg, Imp Gang Boss, Acolyte of Pain, Frothing Berserker, Bloodhoof Brave, Flamewalker , etc.
Doomsayer – very powerful as a response to 1-3 mana minions. Trades for 1-2 cards and gives a free turn.
Embrace the Shadow – extra activation of Circle combo. Also Can be used to burn opponent: Embrace the Shadow + Darkshire Alchemist + double Flash Heal is exaclty 15 damage! Now we can beat JARAXUS.
Darkshire Alchemist – flexible card. Gives you an option to heal yourself or a minoin, has additional use as source of damage.
Harrison Jones – paladins, warriors, shamans, rogues are very popular at the moment, so it often will ensure a swing turn and give you card advantage.
Museum Curator, Shifting Shade – high value cards that have great synergy with N'Zoth, the Corruptor.
Thoughtsteal – classic card advatnage spell, generates an extra card. An excellent way to look for instruments to deal with opponent's threats that your deck doesn't have.
Justicar Trueheart – this card boosts your survival ability in mid-late game while also allowing for stronger impact when playing Auchenai Soulpriest or Embrace the Shadow.

Have the same question many people are asking. Why isn't shaping on the list. Maybe against control thoutsteal does some pretty impressive work but it generally suxs against aggro and zoo because there is practically no acceptably good card u can get from their deck. Forbidden shaping is more flexible I think as u can use it to either play on early turn to compete for board against fast decks when priest usually just passes turns either use it as 8-drop against control and pray for Al'Akir, Ragnaros(both), Tirion etc. The chance of getting smth good is higher than 70% so why not to roll the dice?
Very solid deck. Just what I've been looking for. Only change i made is -1 thoughtsteal +1 forbidden shaping because there are too many aggro decks at the end of the season.
Very good deck in my opinion. I made only one replacement - Elise instead of 1 thoughtsteal. Deck is good against shamans and is very strong in control match-ups.
you don't need elise you can just entomb it
It's better if you can steal Monkey through thoughtsteal/Shifting Shade but wouldn't it be better to entomb the monkey itself?
Could you help me to when i should use my doomsayer? I seem to use it the wrong way thanks.
hi, usually you play it against 1-2-3-4 mana single drop minion. most of time opponent will have no answer to this and pass a turn)
I have been playing this deck for a few days now and I love it so much.
i don't have justicar or Harrison so I put ooze and a 2nd alchemist in, I'm f2p so I don't have much dust left, but I could probably make one more legendary but I haven't decided if I want justicar yet.
shifting shade is insane, stole map from a control warrior and crushed him with unlimited legends, and since the deck draws no extra cards he decked himself way before me.
priest mirrors r insane and exhausting, I had 8 excavated evils in my hand when we hit fatigue. And then played my 3rd n'zoth.
I am thinking about teching in a shadow madness to deal with N'Zoth decks that run twilight summoner, do you think there are any unessential cards? i am already teching in a shadow word horror instead of a thought steal
Hello could you please explain to me your thought process when choosing your hand at the start of the game?
thanks
hello! basically you always keep circle and auchenau) against aggro and midrange you look for doomsayers and Shadow word pain) againt warriors and shamans also keep harrison)
I see! I've been doing it wrong :P Thanks man also any tips on dealing with mages that want to fireball you to death?
I dont have Harrison Jones. Any good replacement for him?
Acidic Swamp Ooze comes to mind
Hey, if you face a lot of weapon classes add Acidic Swamp Ooze) another replacement: 2nd alchemist or elise starseeker)
Good to see this, losing cleric is also the first thing I adjusted in my own deathrattle priest. With thoughtsteal, curator and shade we simply don't need the card draw anymore and as you state there's very little early minions that cleric trades with favorably this expansion. I didn't use doomsayers before and had 2 infested Taurens, trying doomsayers right now!
best priest deck for i`ve ever played)
Forbidden shaping reprents in best case only one late game minion, that could do nothing, in early game it bassicly useless. Thoughtsteals can blow up the game and give you incredible value cards or burn dmg which opponents will not expect, and also can work really good with pyro. This card give you a lot of options. Finally, your opponent can play around forbiden shaping and can't around thoughtsteals)
LOL that's right he doesn't run wild pyromancer(btw I don't understand why is thoughsteal better with it). And yeah, thoughsteal can be useless too, fe when you get a deadly poison or shield slam...
Forbidden Shaping does not provide any advantage, just playing a random minion on curve. If you wanted such minion, you can just put it in your deck and be much more consistent. Thoughtsteal give you card advantage. Sure there's luck involved, but so is Forbidden Shaping. Chance of getting useless cards is actually pretty low, even if I got shield slam, sometime I get/steal armor smith too, and shield slam actually became useful.
