THANKS for uploading the EU Spring preliminary decks. I have been looking for them after reading this: https://manacrystals.com/articles/142-blizzcon-2016-europe-spring-preliminary-decklists-breakdown
I was particularly interested in new Standard Shaman decks that use Al'Akir, and I am very curious to see how they perform. This deck looks a bit unusual, but I am eager to try it to see what Senfglas had in mind. Particularly, what 3 mana card is so valuable that 2x Jeweled Scarabs are included (Tuskarr Totemic? playing a 1/1 just for a small chance of getting another when you already have two in your deck seems a bit weird).
It would also be interesting to provide here links to the VODs of the games with this deck when they become available.
Also you can use the Master of Evolution on it the next turn and get a 4 drop.
You are correct, these are all very handy, I am just not sure it's worth paying 2 and playing a 1/1 (twice) will be worth it. The meta is now very much tempo-oriented, and you have to be pretty determined to play a slower game. This is an unusual choice that I didn't see in any of the other shaman decks of these EU spring preliminaries, and I believe it was added by Senfglas to increase the flexibility of the deck vs. what his opponents will play. We will just see if the flexibility is worth the tempo penalty. I personally would include only one Scarab, or maybe none at all in the new midrange shaman decks for ladder.
Good point, or you can use Master of Evolution on the otherwise extremely weak Scarab (if it lives). I just see the Scarabs' inclusion as a very bold move especially made for tournament use where every single match is crucial, and you have to make your deck as flexible as possible while still keeping your win conditions. Things are quite different in ladder from many perspectives.
