INTRO
Hi, I'm Kizlyar. I achieved golden rogue hero exclusively with wingsofwax's burst aggro rogue and used the build every month to reach rank 5 in the past. I was disheartened to see the build get destroyed by the post-WoG nerfs and the rotation of GvG (Ironbeak Owl, Blade Flurry, Arcane Golem, Tinker Oil, etc.). However, the concept of the deck is viable again due to the additions of the pirate package of Patches the Pirate and Small-Time Buccaneer and Swashburglar. Unearthed Raptor is added to sustain the game should you face a more oppressing control deck.
MULLIGAN
Mulligans are pretty straightforward.
1-drops: Small-Time Buccaneer, Swashburglar, Southsea Deckhand - Any drop on tAlso keep Deadly Poison against specific matchups (Mage/Wyrm, Priest/Cleric, Shaman/Ferals, Warlock/Voidwalker). Avoid dropping Deckhand on turn one if facing other pirate matchups.
2-drops: Loot Hoarder, Undercity Huckster, Defias Ringleader (only with coin), Crazed Alchemist if the matchup warrants it (Shaman, Shaman, and Shaman).
3-drops: SI:7 Agent when you have coin and occasionally Unearthed Raptor with coin if you have a few targets for it (i.e. Huckster+Loot Hoarder)
PLAYSTYLE
-This deck plays more like in between aggro and midrange. Because of the tools the rogue has at her disposal, controlling the early board is possible in every matchup. Try to gain board control early. Use Raptors typically on card draw targets. Undercity Huckster is a great Raptor target vs. Mage, Hunter, sometimes in Shaman and Warlock, but feels meh vs. Warriors (opt to target Loot Hoarders instead). It's really up to the RNG gods, but the main point is to keep those cards flowing so you can push damage.
CARD CHOICES/REPLACEMENTS
Xaril, Poisoned Mind is an awesome card. It can provide crucial burst and/or card draw even though it doesn't pressure the board much as a 3/2. Hard to say what can replace a card that is so versatile. If you like rogue, craft this immediately.
Unearthed Raptor 3/4 stats + potential card draw, weapon/weapon buff from the deathrattle. Essential for this build, hence the title.
Undercity Huckster - 2/2 card draw cannot be passed up and it gives your Raptors valuable targets.
Crazed Alchemist is a great tech card. It's useful vs. many targets i.e. various Shaman totems, taunts like Ancient of War and Wyrmrest 2/4, Doomsayer, pesky 1/3 drops, or just to help make favorable trades. Replace with another 2-3 mana deathrattle drop if you prefer. Bloodmage Thalnos for extra draw, Huge Toad to be more aggressive, or even Harvest Golem to help maintain the early board.
Looks like a nice deck, but I don't have enough dust for Xaril. Is there a good replacement for that card?
sylvanas maybe?;)
Sylvanas is probably too slow. You can try an extra Southsea Squidface.
Tomb Pillager? same cost, also deathrattle, better stats, gives you at least one card? I'll try...
im a little confused about the logic of going face before lightning storm instead of trading before ligntning storm. is there enough charge in the deck to get passed those minions later on for lethal?
Shaman are tricky. You will want to contain their early game with Deadly Poison, Crazed Alchemist, Si7 proc, etc. Never give a Shaman more than 3 targets on the board so that Lightning Storm won't decimate your chances.
Depending on their health and how soon they'll begin to flood the board with totems + the 3/6 totem buffer + Thing, you might need to trade efficiently and potentially lose those minions to storm or just hit face because you're drawing low on cards.
I'm finding shaman a very winnable matchup but sometimes if they draw right you can't do much about it.
If you're having trouble against them, consider adding an additional Crazed Alchemist; it really shines against Flametongue and the Card draw totem, prebuffed trogg, or really any totem aside from the 1/1. It can also help your SI proc kill Feral Spirit or your deadly buffed weapon kill totem golem.
Hey there Kizlyar,
Glad to see Burst Rogue is doing well for you. The last list I had tested was something similar to this:
Since we do not have Oil or Arcane Golem any more, there isn't a great way to burst for a ton of damage. Because of this, I felt a more Midrange-Raptor version seemed to be a better fit. Undercity Huckster and Southsea Squidface are both great cards to get deathrattles from and on top of that are solid cards in general. Even Raptor by himself is a decent card at a 3 mana 3/4.
I'll try testing this list some more later and see if I'd like to make any changes. Thanks for the shout out!
Good luck and grind on,
-Wings
So far I'm 11-1 with this deck. Haven't played a Warrior yet, but my only loss was to Zoo who got 3 lucky knives from Knife Juggler to clear all 3 of my minions.
When I originally was testing this deck for Standard, C'Thun Druid was popular. Now that there is far less Taunts floating around it may be Burst Rogues time to shine again.
I've definitely enjoyed the addition of Raptor to the list so I will try it out with 2 copies like you have (though I think I might need another deathrattle target or two) as Wolfrider doesn't seem to fit. Coldlight Oracle is more of a personal choice because the on-demand card is useful and you can occasionally burn off some cards of your opponent's.
Trying to fit a silence into the deck has been a bit clunky so I think I'll replace it with a second squidface.
Thanks for your suggestions Wings!
Hey, what a bullshit deck.
I used it for my quest "Win 3 games with rogue" and went down from 15 to 20.
At least I made the quest as 3 opponents lost connection or quit at begin (maybe they clicked the wrong hero)..
I'm sorry the shadowstep version didn't work for you. It could be a bit gimmicky at times and I've reworked a sizeable portion of the deck to adjust to the new season. So far in ranked play I'm 22-10 from 18 to rank 13 (early I know but no way you should drop from 15 to 20 if you use this list).
sounds like a case of you sucking, rather than an issue with the deck.
