Hello Hearthstone Player, 

Introduction:                                                                                                                                                 My name is Light#2953. I have played Hearthstone for a long time and ever since I’ve always hated Spell Priest, or OTK Priest. For a while now, spell priest isn't really that good of a deck anymore nor is it played much. But I feel like with the new expansion, I think I can make it work again.

This deck and article is a collaboration with Firelord#22146. When we tested the deck out in casual, we won 12/20 games. Here is our deck on Spell Priest.

The Deck:                                                                                                                                                         Lets talk about the deck at first, what is this deck about? This Spell Priest or SP for short now, is a priest deck that plays around Prophet Velen, Mind Blast and Holy Smite. While you can have a lot of board clear; with Auchenai Soulpriest + Circle of Healing there is still other ways to do so. Even though you don’t need a lot of minions on the board because of the special win condition, it’s still good to have some cards on the board; therefore simple minions are added to the deck. Try to clear the board as much as you can before you throw in Prophet Velen since you will need this card to do as much possible damage as you can. Remember to only throw down Prophet Velen to get lethal or set up lethal.

Combo:
A good combo could be: Prophet Velen + Mind Blast + Mind Blast + Holy Smite + Holy Smite. That is 28 damage. As you probably could tell, you would need Emperor Thaurissan to have reduced at least 3 of those cards for it to work without coin. Even though it isn’t 30 damage, your minions + the damage from Auchenai Soulpriest will usually make it enough. There are endless different combos you can pull off with this deck and there is a lot of decision making involved.

Metagame and tech cards:
As always, you should adapt to the meta. This deck is no exception. The meta might change over a week and is different from different servers as well as different ranks. Here are a few tech cards that you can consider when making this deck:
If you seem to be facing more aggro than control, -1 Shadow Word: Death +1 Shadow Word: Pain.
Mind Control Tech can be a great card vs aggro.
Mind Control is a card you may want to consider if you are facing a lot of control.
You might want 2xWild Pyromancer vs aggro.
If you are facing a lot of control, -1 Wild Pyromancer +1 Corrupted Healbot is a valid choice.
Having both Prophet Velen and Malygos is good if you are facing a lot of control or just seem to run out of damage.

Mulligan:
Vs aggro you want to keep low cost minions. If you have Circle of Healing and Auchenai Soulpriest, keep them.
Vs Control a Corrupted Healbot, Emperor Thaurissan and Forbidden Shaping are all great, as well as card draw. Keeping Prophet Velen is often not a good idea since you won’t play it until you have went through half of your deck most of the time.

Replacements:                                                                                                                                          - Malygos - You might wanna use this card for more damage, but it might be tricky since you will need to throw in 2 high cost cards to deal as much damage as you can. But Malygos is not a bad card in this deck, and therefor i say its a really good card "if you have him", you can replace him for a Darkshire Alchemist. There is also the option to play Malygos instead of Prophet Velen in your deck because Malygos will deal more damage with Smite. However it will require more ticks of Emperor Thaurissan to work.                                           

 - Justicar Trueheart - You might don't have this card and want a replacement for it, this card is a really good card and i do think its one of the essentials of the deck, but its not needed, simply add another Corrupted Healbot.

- Excavated Evil - If you don't have Excavated Evil put in another Holy Nova. If you don’t have Forbidden Shaping it can be replaced by a value minion like Corrupted Healbot.
