Strategy (v3.32)
Early game
• Collect key combo cards1.
• Use removals efficiently (SI:7 Agent + Backstab / Shadow Strike, Eviscerate).
• Keep vs All (Novice Engineer, Backstab, SI:7 Agent, Coldlight Oracle).
• Keep vs Shaman (Eviscerate).
Mid game
• Cycle and burn2 cards (Coldlight Oracle + Shadowstep / Brann Bronzebeard + Gang Up3).
• Contest board (SI:7 Agent, Earthen Ring Farseer, Refreshment Vendor).
• Remove multiple threats (Board4, Fan of Knives, Vanish).
• Refresh cards (Preparation + Vanish + Board).
End game
• Coldlight Oracle. Reno Jackson5.
Notes
1 Key combo cards:
vs Control: (Coldlight Oracle + Shadowstep + Gang Up).
vs Aggro: (1x Gang Up + Cult Apothecary, Shadowcaster + Brann Bronzebeard).
2 Aim to mill at least 4 cards per combo/turn.
3 Critical requirement.
4 Develop board early with minions to trade against aggressive decks.
5 Hearthstone Deck Tracker can help track the remaining duplicate cards in the deck.
Alternatives
• 1x Novice Engineer to Bloodmage Thalnos.
• 1x Novice Engineer to King Mukla.
• 1x Shadow Strike to Fan of Knives.
Games
Reno is pointless since you will have 2+ oracles in deck
Hi ferdiksp, you won't have 2+ after you have drawn ;) The idea of Reno is to use it as the win condition after we have cycled through the entire deck.
Having quite a bit of fun with this deck! Quick question: why Loot Hoarder and not Novice Engineer? It seems to have better synergy, since the damage doesn't really matter and can come out to more card draw with Brann and Vanish. My first thought was that it was too much card draw vs the extra cards you generate (any more than the 6 from Gang Up and you risk dying first from fatigue)... but then I saw that you preferred Life Tap for Sir Finley, so I'm at a bit of a loss.
Hi T3hj3hu, you are right about Loot Hoarder on: (1) Novice Engineer has better synergy and (2) I wanted to avoid over draw (above 6). My personal experience was better with Loot Hoarder due to (a) my relatively low success rate in pulling off an efficient Brann Novice combo and (b) the 2/1 body could help to remove some early aggression (e.g. 2/1 vs 3/2). I think Novice Engineer is good too if you have a better experience with it :) As for Sir Finley, I would choose Fireblast if I have a decent starting hand/draws and Life Tap to catch up from a poor starting hand (stop when close to the Mill-limit of 6 cards).
Isnt Shiv better?
Hi Major_rus, I think Shiv is good when combo-ed with Bloodmage Thalnos to deal 2 damage. Novice Engineer is good when (a) combo-ed with Brann to draw 2 cards and (b) used as the starting first card to play on board.
Hey Gaksa, I find this card is generally to buy time to draw into the combo pieces (Coldlight, Gang Up). I will try these alternatives:
• Shadowcaster - Duplicate critical cards like Coldlight or Brann (when my draw is not favorable).
• Cult Apothecary - Additional heal.
• Lower mana cost card with a decent body to curve better e.g.
- Ancient Brewmaster, Tomb Pillager, Sen'jin Shieldmasta, Sir Finley Mrrgglton.
I like the Reno, It seems weird at first but i tried too. Very handy if you both out of card and you otherwise have to settle for a draw*. You can first do reno and then kill him with card draw :)
*like both lose
Hi Fujita, yeah ideally that's the game plan :) - to cycle cards into fatigue and recover/win through reno.
