Cookie Jarr's Control Priest (9/17/16)
Deck Overview:
- This is my take on the current resurrect priest that's currently making it's way through constructed play. This deck is much slower then it's faster, midrange counterparts, however it has enough stall mechanics to outlast almost every aggressive deck in the current meta. This deck relies on huge turns 3-5, however one big turn usually will do it. The trick is to stay alive till turn 3, establish a board presence until turn 6, then Entomb, Shadow Word Death, and Mind Control away. Justice Trueheart is important to get on the board, but otherwise the trick is not to play any cards for tempo after turn 6, and to instead remove all of your Ysera, or a threat entombed from your oppenent. This is an extremely passive deck, and the trick to winning is to not make wasteful plays. Since turn 3-5 are so important, I have included a guide on what to do during these turns. These are the combos you're normally trying to find on turn 3-5, labeled with the situation they are optimized for.
Option 1 (The Reason this Deck Has its Name) [Tempo Play]
- Turn 3: Injured Blademaster
- Turn 4: Resurrect (If Blademaster is Dead) / Heal (If Alive) + Power Word Shield
- Turn 5: Onyx Bishop (If Blademaster is Dead) / Drop Priest of the Feast or Auchenai
this option works best against decks with small to medium sized boards, however, against a face hunter/hybrid hunter, your best bet is to find a combo that maximizes your ability to heal and have a board presence, or a combo that allows you to clear. If your in danger of dropping below 10 health after your opponents next turn, I would find an alternate play. Against a deck that doesn't put your life in danger in three turns, this combo will singlehandedly win you the game, by helping you last until late game where no decks in the current meta have the ability to overpower you.
Option 2 (Feast of Heals) [Hybrid Heal/Tempo Play]
- Turn 3: Heal Face
- Turn 4: Priest of the Feast
- Turn 5: Flash Heal Face + Power Word Shield + Circle of Healing (If Necessary)
It is important to note that this play works best against aggressive decks, or against an opponent who currently has the upper hand against you. Please note that against another deck that has cheap removal, I recommend saving priest of the feast till turn 5 so you can guarantee the combo, or having a resurrect in hand in case the priest dies. Buffing the Priest of the Feast is vital, because if you can keep him alive for an extended period of time, you will be able to heal yourself to full quite effortlessly.
Option 3 (R.I.P Board) [Reset Play]
- Turn 3: Heal Face
- Turn 4: Auchenai + Circle of Healing or Heal Face (If No Auchenai in Hand)
- Turn 5: Excavated Evil (Only if Necessary)
Obviously, this play is for clearing large boards, and this works extremely well against huge boards or buildups that begin to happen around here in most decks (Midrange Hunter, Token Druid) This combo will save you many times, however it is important to either heal yourself or generate tempo after this play (see option 1 or 2, just try to combine the steps into 1-2 turn plays.

Substitutions For Every Card! (NOW LIVE!) 9/7/16:
Here Are Substitutions For Every Rare, Epic, and Legendary in the Deck, and any Commons that are requested in the comments section.
Rare:
Onyx Bishop - Sylvannas Windrunner, Psychotron, Harrison Jones, Shadow Madness
Resurrect - Holy Smite, Divine Spirit, Inner Fire
Auchenai Soulpriest - Holy Nova
Excavated Evil - Holy Nova, Corrupted Seer
Epic
Cabal Shadow Priest - Harrison Jones, Shadow Madness, Prince Malchezarr, Sylvannas Windrunner
Legendary
Justicar Trueheart - Cult Apothecary, Sylvannas Windrunner, Harrison Jones
Ysera- Ragnaros, Alexstraza, Confessor Paltress
Please understand that these substitutions are far from optimal. If you are substituting more than 2 cards then this deck will be far from optimal. Large deck changes are coming soon, but at just over 4,000 dust this is a relatively cheap control deck.
~~ Thanks Again, ~~

I appreciate the nice guide you've written, too bad deck is utter shit (so really it's just another average priest deck).
hey, i was rank 12-13 struggling with zetalot's ressurect , saw this deck, now im at rank 11, kinda stuck in win-lose-win-lose since im hitting alot of shamans and mages that i draw badly against
oh and im playing sylvanas instead of justicar
Mage is a tough matchup, but against tempo mage it really does come down to the draws. Shaman you may have an advantage over, however it becomes extremely difficult to win if they can rush you down with amazing draws. My advice is to substitute the Mind Control and one Cabal for either a corrupted seer, or holy nova, and maybe add an azure drake do deal more damage with Excavated. I don't think a holy smite would be bad, but it's up to you. Good Luck!
CookieJarr
so i put 2 holy novas and azure drake, and still got rekt by tempo mage :)
i guess its just a hard counter.
Mage might be hard due to the fact that instead of creating board threats they have an immense amount of spells, which you are unable to remove, so I too think mage is the hardest opponent for this deck.
CookieJarr
title click bait
Lol use the deck first then call it click bait.
Thanks,
CookieJarr
Saw this deck, build it, no Yesra, used arch thief rafaam
starting at rank 18
First game, vs Nzoth Priest, fatigue, I win
2nd game, death rattle rouge, no removals to handle 3/4 or 4/4, but later got it under control. dropped to 3 hp at one point, but still won
3rd game, vs paladin, deathrattle based paladin, mind controlled tirion turn 9 with coin, he killed it, i res with bishop, he killed it again, i res with bishop again. He cant keep with with that level of tempo. I win
4th game, shaman, aggo shaman, could not put anything on the board, not enough to kill his azue drakes + doom hammer with rockbiter, and 2 lava strikes. loss
5th game, tempo mage, 2 flamewaker and 3 magic missles, 12 hp by turn 5, loss.
6th game, stealing rouge, loss, too much card advantage on her side later in the game, edric the pure, fordring, and confessor, loss
so rank 17, 3 win 3 loss. im ok with it, but ill play more.
I would recommend holding onto the Circle of Healings in the beginning, and from what you've said I'm thinking that replacing both mind controls for embrace the shadows might do better. Shaman is generally a problem for this deck, because cheap single target removal for totem golem or flame wreathed faceless is only present in 2 cards, however against tempo mage it's all about the start. Good Luck,
CookieJarr
2x Mind Control unplayable is extremely incorrect. To think that you get an 8+ drop, and removal, and considering soggoth the slitherer is the only late game drop still available that can counter mind control, it's incorrect to call it 'unplayable.' Play the deck before you talk about how unplayable it is please.
Thanks,
CookieJarr
The 80% win rate is at ranks 5-10, and from the grind from 16 down. And the whole point of the deck is to waste your opponents tempo and to create huge tempo swings, that are so tremendous that they can stop any aggro deck at the moment, not to mention the massive heals now available. The fact that most of the deck is removal means that you can consistently draw answers to your opponents threats, and that you can consistently be able to either cabal or entomb or, in late game mind control the larger threats.
Sorry You Think That,
CookieJarr
my first 14 rang, thx. but i doesnt have Ysera, i switch it to sylvana, what you think?
Its 100% usable, as it works as removal when comboed, however I recommend playing Sylvannas reactively, as opposed to tempo, because it is a great card for shutting down huge threats.
Good Luck,
CookieJarr
This deck seems kinda good, but i kinda dont win since u are deeply dependen on draws 4-5 combo cards without them you lose kinda all time (to low percentage winrage for me kinda 10% x)
Considering about 65% of this deck is removal, not drawing removal by turn 5 is almost impossible, and turn 6 I think it is impossible to not have some form of hard removal. If your win percentage is 10% I'm going to say that you may need to play a better deck, considering I can hit 25% with the basic shaman deck.
Good Luck,
CookieJarr
I don't have ysera (using rag), but how would elise do in this? Seeing as how this is a heavy control priest, would elise be any good in it?
Looking back that was a pretty dumb question. We got 2 mind controls, 2 entombs, and a rag. We really don't need more late game. On a positive note, I've gone 8-2 with this deck so far, and one of those losses was due to drawing no removal against a zoo with well above average curve.
Elise is not a bad card, but my recommendation is saving it for the late game, and keeping any unnecessary cards that may stack up by fatigue, and turning them into legendaries. If played correctly, Elise saves you from 2 fatigue draws.
I thank you for this guide, 1st of all i think that i will switch 1 mind for sylvanas, if u are unlucky and get 1 of them in ur hand from the mulligan i think that u are fucked. I will try it and will give u an opinion.
