Hi, thanks for reading! I've had great success with Evolve Shaman in Karazhan, so I thought it would be fun to bring back for MSoG. Below are some images of beating the pros with this deck!
Screenshots:
Overview:
Evolve Shaman is very similar to mid-range shaman and in my opinion stronger. It's also a breath a fresh-air to play instead of the usual Jade-archetype. It'll throw your opponent off as well! Below is a description of the new cards added.
New Cards:
Blowgill Sniper: This card replaced Bilefin Tidehunter. I think it's the best murloc available and helps guarantee we draw 2 cards from The Curator.
Doppelgangster: This card is borderline broken with Evolve. You'll Evolve the summoned minions as well creating THREE 6-mana minions! Also, does well by itself with Bloodlust against classes such as Druid that have a hard time clearing flooded boards.
White Eyes: This card is interesting. I wouldn't say it's mandatory by any means. It's a taunt, which is good against aggro. Against slower decks, if you manage to top-deck The Storm Guardian early from it, you'll usually be able to cheese out a win.
Main-Combo:
On Turn 7 play The Curator. It will draw you Pantry Spider, and Azure Drake. Turn 8 play Pantry Spider, Blowgill Sniper, Hero Power, and Evolve. This will give you about 13 mana worth of stats on minions for 8 mana-- stats might be slightly lower than 13 mana, don't feel like doing the math. Most classes will have trouble beating this or expend a lot of resources. Tip: You should have tried to force out one Brawl from control warrior before this combo. Disclaimer: This combo will have about a 0.8% chance to pull Doomsayer. If you're scared of that, you can totem after the combo.
Defensive-Combo:
There's also a defensive combo available. After you play The Curator, you'll pull an Azure Drake. On Turn 8 this can be coupled with Lightning Storm or Maelstrom Portal + Spirit Claws. Against match-ups like Zoo and Shaman, this usual devastates them when you're both fighting for control of the board state.
Current Stats from Rank 4 to Rank 1 (9/8/16:)
Mulligans:
Against aggressive decks usually keep Argent Squire, Evolve, Lightning Bolt, Spirit Claws, and Totem Golem. With The Coin, you can keep Maelstrom Portal, Tuskarr Totemic, and Pantry Spider if you have Evolve already.
Against non-aggressive decks always keep Evolve, but only 1 copy-- same for above. From there, it's the same mulligan as the aggressive line-up. Against Druid, look for Hex as it's really important since they have Innervate shenanigans. If I know the player is playing a control/reno deck, I'll even keep The Curator in my opening hand if the rest of my hand is decent because playing The Curator on turn 7 is very powerful for tempo.

Card Replacements (Updated 12/23/16:)
The following cards can potentially be included in the deck. Devolve, Mana Tide Totem, Lotus Illusionist, Master of Evolution, and Thunder Bluff Valiant.
Devolve is interesting and would be added as a x1. It's purpose would be to get rid of taunt walls, so you can Bloodlust for the kill or to kill pesky minions such as a stealthed Gadgetzan Auctioneer or Tirion Fordring. Ideally the thought process with this card is your usually opponent is playing specific cards as a part of their strategy-- this thwarts that strategy.
Mana Tide Totem. More draw is good. We rely on a lot of combos, so if we don't find The Curator by turn 7 we may be missing a combo-piece. This helps alleviate that.
Lotus Illusionist. I don't have this card, but would love to try it out. I think it has great potential in this Evolve deck.
Master of Evolution. It's an Evolve deck, so this could find a home with our lack of 4-drops. Would likely be a x1.
Thunder Bluff Valiant is a solid card to include in any Bloodlust deck. The issue is the lack of space for it as we can only include 30-cards.
Questionable Cards:
I'd say this deck is currently a work-in-progress. Perhaps about 90-95% complete and 4-5 cards can be changed to potentially make it better. The following stand out:
Blowgill Sniper. This card is only in here for the murloc tag. If we draw it prior to The Curator we're sad. We can potentially remove it and make room for one of the cards mentioned in card replacements.
Lightning Storm. Overload here is a killer. We'd be playing Rockbiter Weapon instead of Lightning Bolt, but Blizzard poorly nerfed that card. This deck really hates overload as we don't benefit from it. Often times this card can be a dead card in your hand, which is bad.
Final Thoughts:
Feel free to ask if you have any questions below or if you have suggestions for cards!
Got legend with this deck, have to say thanks!
75.5 % winrate (40-13). Took me three days from rank 5.
IMO Bloodlust is the MVP card, it seems like nobody is playing around it.
Awesome! Glad to hear that. Yeah, I love Bloodlust. People usually don't respect your board full of weak minions. It also lets you still win games where classes like Control Warrior have both their Brawls in the top 15 of their deck.
True, I played against a lot of CW and my strategy was to swarm the board twice to bait both Brawls, and then play double spiders and double evolve. Worked like charm! :D
Would I be fine sticking with the older version if I dont have bloodmage thalnos? or am I still better off replacing mana tide totem and master of evolution?
I'd still replace Mana Tide Totem for Thunder Bluff Valiant-- The Curator helps us draw plenty I feel, specially if you have Bilefin Tidehunter. For Master of Evolution, it depends on your preference and what you're facing. If you're facing slower control decks Master of Evolution is better. If you're facing decks like Dragon Warrior and mid-range shaman, I'd make the switch to Defender of Argus. In tempo vs tempo, whoever curves out better becomes a favorite to win and Defender of Argus helps balance that out when you have a poor starting curve.
You are so lucky u have not played against paladins. This deck has no chance against those fkin doomsayer, clearing, healing nzoth freakin deck.
PS. I know how to play this deck. I had awesome win streak and then those bs paladins comes from nowhere
Yeah, I haven't played against any N'Zoth Paladin. Adding Thunder Bluff Valiant instead of Master of Evolution might help against them
Is this deck more successful then Aggro Shaman?
You are one of those who play aggro... This deck isnt 4 ya
I mainly play midrange and get destroy by aggro...
Was thinking to start climbing with Shaman instead of Hunter.
So I ask again is this deck stand any chance VS Aggro Shaman?
Aggro Shaman is unfavored against Dragon Warrior, which is pretty popular. This deck is about a 55%/45% favorite against Dragon Warrior. So depends on the match-up. Look at this deck like it's Mid-range Shaman.
you will lose about 90% of the games against aggro shaman with this deck.
edit: which is bad because face shaman is the biggest cancer out there
I agree, agro shaman is cancer. Fuck those no brain fgts
This deck is awesome, win streak form rank 6 to 5 and actually quite fun. If u think its bad, maybe you are unlucky as me or dont know how to play this.
OP, you should add matchup specifics to this guide and post it on https://www.reddit.com/r/CompetitiveHS/.
This is the first evolve deck that I've tried and I am pleasantly surprised at both its consistency and power level. The claws are really an MVP for both board control and reach. I see at least one copy becoming standard in every shaman build, including aggro. When not in need of a ping, I've found it correct to sit on them until spell power comes online and then unloading excess charges on face if there are no other targets. With this approach, there’s a good chance that you'll have a second copy by the time you’ve used up the first, so this card will usually account for a nice chunk of your opponent’s life total. I also love the curator innovation to guarantee a board or AOE power play in the late game.
I think that there’s still a little room for optimization with this list. The cards that I would consider cutting would most likely be one AOE or the Yeti of Evolution, which isn't that strong without a big on-curve evolve target. Here are some cards that I plan to test out, in various combinations.
Thanks for the suggestions! I'll add match-ups and post to reddit.
Yeah, Spirit Claws are great. I crafted golden versions of them instantly lol. If turn 1 Spirit Claws, turn 2 Hero Power and roll Wrath of Air Totem, I'll usually just hit face for the value, since you're still left with a 3/2 that can then be transitioned to board control. Tuskarr Totemic received an indirect buff because now rolling Wrath of Air Totem is almost as good as rolling Mana Tide Totem / Totem Golem.
I agree; this deck with The Curator strategy is probably 2 cards away from being optimized.
Master of Evolution is probably the weakest card. It does find nice targets with Cellar Spider if you can't find your Evolve. Also, playing it on an injured Thing from Below or Azure Drake, which happens from time to time gets you an great tempo swing. It's also finds good use as a "second" chance Evolve. Sometimes you'll get poor cards like Twilight Drake, which summons as a 4/1, so you can use Master of Evolution to counteract it. It is a bit of an awkward card versus control-- pretty much is just used as Brawl bait.
It could be possible to cut one AOE. x2 Maelstrom Portal and x1 Lightning Storm have been really good against Mid-Range Shaman and Discard Lock. I think those match-ups are 65/35 in our favor because of the AOE.
Bloodmage Thalnos was initially in this deck. I really like the card and it has great synergy; I just couldn't find room. I would probably cut Lightning Storm for it. I currently been having faith in rolling Wrath of Air Totem. x2 Nerubian Prophet was in a very early version of the deck. The issue I had with it was it's terrible to top-deck and there's scary 7-drops it can Evolve into such as Acidmaw and Baron Geddon at about a 7% chance, which I think is too high. This becomes a consistent fear because we already have two six-drops with Thing from Below. Barnes is a good replacement for Master of Evolution. If you pull The Curator, you can Evolve into Tirion Fordring or either Ragnaros, which is usually a free win-- it might be a little too cheeky though like you said there's little value in the token it summons without Evolve. Thunder Bluff Valiant sounds like a great replacement for Master of Evolution-- I'll probably try that out.
I think the best option to cut of this deck is x1 or even x2 Lightning Bolt
I like either x2 Rockbiter Weapon or x2 Lightning Bolt. In this deck, since there's no Doomhammer, I lean towards Lightning Bolt, but Rockbiter Weapon could be better because no overload.
Nice deck, just won my first game with it on rank 15.
Awesome! Glad to hear that.
