Old Deck:
Hotform's current Dragon Mage deck that is working pretty good against Shamans!

You are normally looking to start the game with either the Mana Wyrm and an early spell (which is the Frostbolt in the case of this deck) or some dragon stuff (namely Faerie Dragon). If you have some cards in your starting hand that need dragon activators, like Netherspite Historian and Blackwing Technician, it is perfectly fine to keep a higher cost dragon in the hand, but try to avoid keeping theultra high cost cards like Chillmaw or Alexstrasza. Keep in mind that you are running a total of 10 dragons (33% of the deck) in the deck, so even without any dragon in your starting hand the chances are PRETTY HIGH to draw a dragon and you`ll still be able to use any activator.
any replacements for Blackwing Corruptor and Blackwing Technician?
These are core cards for the early to mid game, especially the Corruptor is not replaceable. Instead of the Technician you could try some early Mage minions (e.g. Babbling Book) but it will make your early game so much weaker because of the missing strong body.
feels bad man, didnt get BRM and dont wanna get it now since its gonna rotate out pretty soon. thanks anyway
Made some changes:
- 2 Mana Wyrm +2 Babbling Book. Mana Wyrm is often stranded as a 1/3 if you don't get frost bolt or coin. On the other hand the book often gives low value spells. Still testing.
-1 Arcane Intellect +1 Forgotten torch. Rarely run of cards, and if I do it just gets me nearer to fatigue. Rather have more value in deck. Helps early board control and burn for later.
-1 Ice block +1 Forgotten torch. With no reno and only Alex Ice Block saves you in two narrow scenarios. One you have board control, and Alex in hand you can prevent from being bursted down. Two both players have board and burst, the block lets you race. I find more commonly that either the block is useless in fatigue, I don't have Alex and die to a ping next turn, I have Alex but need Alex and a Flamestrike to survive next turn. Thinking of trying Ice Barrier for heal.
Another config to try is (-2 AI +2 Torch, -1 Block + 1 Barrier)
Maybe half it? -1 Mana Wyrm +1 Babbling Book. :)
this is one aggressive deck :O
I really want to play this deck but i cant bring myself to craft a card then wont be usable in 3 months.
Need Alex and Chillmaw to complete this. Which card is more valuable to craft first?
I'm guessing Chillmaw?
Craft Alexstrasza first since she is a Classic Legendary and will never rotate out of Standard. Chillmaw is due to rotate out with the next expansion.
Good call, thanks! Tossed in a Medivh in the meantime in place of Chillmaw. Sort of synergizes with the higher cost spells we have. Only felt slow during my loss to Midrange Shaman.
Could probably swap out Medivh for Nefarian, but I've never really liked the two random cards I've gotten.
any replacement for chillmaw&alex?
Both cards are unique and it´s really hard to replace. I think you can try Nefarian as a replace for Alex.
But keep in mind, that you´ll never know what you´ll get from him. Sometimes you can get stupid cards like poison from rogue...
Chillmaw is a nice boardclear against all aggro stuff, and you´ll meet a lot of this in the ladder. I don´t know, how to replace him :-)
Perhaps you can try it with the cheapest replacements Nefarian and Chromaggus. If you have Ysera, take her! :D
Thank you
dude, this deck is amazing. even when you lose. the match is a good match.
This deck fuckin' rocks! Call of the Wild? Nope can't even go through my Chillmaw! Another CotW or other bullshit? Double Framestrikes haha!
Not to mention Netherspite Historian has drawn my countless legendaries, basically my opponents run out of removal so quickly. With the mage removal tools we already have, plus these overpowered dragon synergies, this might be one of the best deck I would rely on for a while!

A few thoughts to have based around winning against aggro matchups are 1. Can you pressure the board to keep up pressure with them? and 2. Are you using your removal in the correct way? I would suggest making sure you get really good Book Wyrm kill off. You have things like Darkshire Councilman/Imp Gang Boss against zoolock and Thunderbluff Valiant/Totem Golem against shaman. You play this deck with thoughts of can you contest board, and how do you set up board clears. Once you do that, control the board and win the game. You primarily wanna shoot for around a 10 to 15 turn game. At least, those are the results I have had against aggro so far.
Hello! I want to try this deck, but I don't have Chillmaw, any replacement advice?
Maybe Deathhwing or Deathwing Dragonlord, Ysera, Malygos, Nefarian,Chromaggus, Coldarra Drake...
I first tried Deathwing - and it saved my ass once or twice, but you'll often have board control so it's a dead card a lot of the time. Right now I'm running Chromaggus. Not sure if this is optimal, but at least it acts like a soft taunt unless opponent is threatening lethal.
I would love to get more opinions on which replacement is the best.
