Streamed with the deck a bit last night to a 4-0 record, rank 9->8. Here is the VODs. Enjoy!
Hi guys. I'm a former Magic the Gathering pro turned Hearthstone streamer/grinder.
I loved played MalyLock back before the Wild/Standard split. It had a decent Secret Paladin matchup until they evolved to become more midrange, and absolutely crushed Combo Druid. That being the case, I was pretty excited when Netherspite Historian was printed, and wanted to play around with the deck again.
In general, you just want to play a value game. Keep 1-drops, 2-drops and a 4-mana dragons for your mull. If you're on the coin, and you have a 2-drop already, you can keep two 4-mana dragons. Hellfire is probably a fine keep versus Shaman, but I don't like it in my opener against anything else. It's usually too situational to play on curve.
The deck is very fun to play. I don't think it's tier 1 viable by any means, but it's definitely competitive and can get you to rank 5 by season's end.
I'll try to post some gameplay vids soon.
Here are my stats so far:
If you like the deck please leave an upvote and/or comment. If you want to see it in action some more, check out my stream Thursday 9/30 10PM EDT twitch.TV/kirrrbbby. I stream every Tuesday and Thursday at that time, and have a viewer giveaway every Thursday. You can also follow me twitter.com/kirrrbbbyPhD
Have fun!
Deck is great and is actually fun to play and has so far got me to rank 11, I would be higher but I played 4 aggro shamans in a row so there wasn't much I could do about it. But overall a great deck to play and would highly recommend at least playing it once before the new standard patch comes.
Is Twilight Guardian decently replaceable here? I don't have it and don't really want to craft it considering TGT will get dumped soon...
I don't really think so. The 4 drops are really important in the deck, and twilight guardian is a great minion and another dragon enabler. If you really want to just play without it, maybe add the second argus and another dragon (chillmaw, alexstraza, drakonid crusher)
OK so I played some games in casual with a bit modified deck. Replaced Guardians and one more Twilight Drake with Siphon Soul (really handy in nowadays Rag meta :D), Faerie Dragon and another Defender of Argus, as I don't think Drakonid Crusher would work with this deck's pace, while some early dragons could work really well here, and they indeed do.
And I can say the deck remained quite competitive (of course, as much as casual mode can be called so). Most of the times I could get a missing drake (Guardian included) from Netherspite Historian. Here's the stats so far:
One of the best things about this deck is that starting a game with Argent Squire, Dark Peddler, Imp Gang Boss and Defender of Argus, misleads your opponent into thinking you're a zoolock or a discolock, making them go all in and get a bit surprised later LOL
Great! I'm glad you're having success with it. Faerie dragon is a great choice, BTW. I forgot about that possibility.
This is quickly becoming my new favorite warlock deck since the Dreadsteed+Baron Rivendare+Mal'Ganis combo was removed from Standard. There's something amazing about getting both copies of Soulfire, playing the Emperor Thaurissan and then getting the Malygos to end it.
Had one game where I actually discarded the other Soulfire, but I had a third thanks to Dark Peddler
Yea. If only we still had Darkbomb. :-(
Pre-standard MalyLock is still my favorite deck of all time.
Oh man, I'd nearly forgotten about Darkbomb.
Could always go to Wild. *crickets*
I have a wild list, but I've never tried playing it at serious ranks.
