Greetings, travellers, I'm Subrezon, a german legend player. I love creativity in deckbuilding, and I always try something new, and try to make it work. Before the release of Mean Streets of Gadgetzan I will try to fry up a deck for each class that I think has potential AND might be competitive. The thied deck in the series is a Shaman that I very look forward to, as it is nothing like what we saw of Shaman yet - N'Zhoth Control Shaman.
What is this deck?
Draw through your deck with Ancestral Knowledge and Far Sight, stall with Healing Wave, Jinyu Waterspeaker, Lightning Storm, Elemental Destruction and Hex, then play all your Deathrattle stuff and bring them back with N'Zoth, the Corruptor. White Eyes will fill your deck with multiple copies of The Storm Guardian, which will be enough to outvalue any deck imaginable, especially those weak to Hex.
Why this deck?
Cos' White Eyes is AWESOME! And because Jade Golems won't work in Shaman, IMHO.
Is it going to be "a deck" upon release?
Absolutely sure about that. White Eyes and Jinyu Waterspeaker are just too good to not work. Maybe this deck will look different, incorporating Spirit Claws/Azure Drake package, for instance. Time will show.
So, I hope you enjoyed this one, so stay tuned for more! Don't forget to drop a +1 and to check out all of Subrezon's Theorycraft Series!
I've played A LOT of games with this deck and made a few changes:
-2 Far Sight +1 Ancestral Spirit +1 Lava Shock. Against aggro decks, Far Sight felt like a dead card in my hand. Its a good card, but I feel there were better options for it. Adding in Ancestral Spirit and another Lava shock adds more consistency and overall a better matchup against aggro. Yes, Ancestral Spirit is a purely value card.... but I found that running two really helped me re-establish control in certain matchups (vs hunter for an example). Another Lava Shock is just better against aggro and even other matchups because, sure, you are playing control (and you can be more liberal with your mana usage)... but its better to have 2 for recovery after Elemental Destruction.
-2Mistress of Mixtures +1Doomsayer +1Barnes. I read your comment about why you don't put Barnes in the deck. Yes, drawing out Doomsayer can be bad, but I think that you don't have experience with a deck that runs both Doomsayer and Barnes (and even if you do, I think that you are being too critical of Barnes). You just have to be careful with playing Barnes. In Control Paladin, for example, playing barnes on a full board is a no no, but sometimes getting Doomsayer from Barnes (obviously played when your board is not filled with stuff) is actually okay. if your opponent ignores the doomsayer, then it prevents them from progressing their board AND it buys you a turn to recover. If your opponent takes care of the doomsayer, you still get value. Barnes is really a "win more" card, and the mere chance to get something great is the reason why its put into N'zoth Paladin (even with 2 doomsayers in deck). I suggest adding another Doomsayer for more consistency, and plus having two board stalls is good in both fast and slow matchups (its really effective against jade druid since you can prevent them from having a good curve play).
Overall the deck is really fun, but you still lose to aggro decks (like pirate warrior) and decks like Jade druid. However, I think its really competitive. I am currently rank 11 at this deck (I'm not one to rank up to legend in the first two weeks of the season). I hope you update the deck to reflect actual performance on ladder.
If you can find a suitable break, maybe after Doomsayer has triggered, in an aggro matchup, Justicar Trueheart can be a game-winning card, maybe worth considering?
I think 2 ancestral spirits are called for. Its just so valuable to duplicate taunt and death-rattle minions, especially the new white eyes card. Maybe over ans knowledge as you tend to totem a lot in the early rounds anyway.
Nice deck, can't wait to try it out. What are the flex spots ? I might want to switch the Mistress of Mixtures for Azure Drake since you already have healing for days. Maybe add a Devolve somewhere in there to deal with Grimy Goons ?
No room for Barnes at all?
