This deck has gotten some attention so I'll write up a little bit of info based on the comments that were posted.
Right now Ink Master is my favorite card in the new set. I actually think to some extent it's better than Raza. While you can build an entire deck around Raza in Priest, the tempo swing Ink Master gives you will straight up win you the game in most cases. A few people mentioned why no Pyroblast. Well in most cases I find myself using Flamestrike, Blizzard, Firelance Portal, or 10 mana spell from Kazakus with the Ink Master. The ability to clear the board and play a 5/5 or in the case of the Kazakus spell or portal clear the board and play multiple minions is much more valuable than having a 10 mana burn spell that is very situational and can be a dead card in your hand.
The two biggest matchups right now are Pirate Warrior and Jade Druid. Both are very beatable with this deck.
Vs Pirate warrior, hold Ooze, doomsayer and reno if possible. I would try and hold ooze until they upgrade or use a reaper. Remove minions until you can stabilize and they apply as much pressure as possible.
Vs Jade Druid, you have to make them play defensively. Hold mana wyrm, Ooze, Kazakaus. They usually want to ramp up early so if you can get some kind of board and get into a position with Ink Master to Fileands portal or Kazakus 10 mana spell on turn 7 that summons minions, you'll have a shot to burst them down before the Jade Golems get out of control.
Update:
- Soulcaster + BGH
I like Soulcaster a lot and I think it has a place in this deck but I often find it as a dead card or just playing it as a vanilla 3/4. Best case scenario I copy Reno or Kazakus but in those games I don't usually win because of that play.
Addition of BGH is because I'm seeing a good bit of Rag and vs Jade Druid, being able to kill of a 7/7 golem or better and play a 4/2 minion can swing a game pretty significantly at times.
Why Ice Lance?
Is Arcane Intellect better to exchange it with Flamewaker because this deck needs some card draw
Yes.
Flamewaker has no place in Renomage. People think that it is auto-include in every mage deck, but it really only gets value in decks where you can play it along with a bunch of cheap spells. Otherwise it is just a 2/4 that will at most get 2 rounds of pings off, but more than likely just 1 or none.
Arcane intellect is absolutely necessary, and it's weird to me that a mage wouldn't run it, as it is one of the best class-specific card draws.
I made the swap but the reason why i didn't have AI in my original list is because this deck never seems to run out of cards. You have 7 cards that give you cards plus two cards that draw in Bloodmage and Azure Drake. Flamewaker is an early threat. Even if you don't get a lot of use out of it, your opponent feels the need to waste a swipe or hard removal asap on it.
This is one of Reno mage's strengths, though: Card Advantage. The deck is just loaded with the tools that you need in order to win, but as 1-ofs, it's hard to come by the exact one that you need at any given time. Having a consistently full hand gives you options.
With that said, it's all well and good that your hand is usually full... but what is it full of? Cards that you got from Babbling Book, Jeweled Scarab, Kabal Courier, etc etc... but the most important card that you can have comes from your own deck: Reno. Having a hand full of random cards doesn't do you very much good if your health total is dwindling and Reno is still hiding in your deck. And not just Reno; the entire deck is a carefully selected combination of 30 cards. Arcane intellect is useful for digging into your own deck, and getting the cards that you put in there to serve a specific purpose.
Random cards definitely have their place, but never underestimate the power of drawing cards from your own deck.
Not sure about Manic Soulcaster I used it on Brann, and it made 2 Branns go into my deck. Seems nice, but it made Reno fail.
I mean, I could use it on another minion, but this deck is so spell heavy...
Soulcaster is almost always played on either Reno or Kazakus.
Yeah you're right, was my lack of experience with these decks.
Curious why no Pyroblast in deck when playing Solia. Seems like a good finisher.
Yeah I got Pyroblast over Arcane blast. Bigger blasts are better.
In my experience, Pyroblast doesn't work as intended 99% of the time. Most of the time, you are stuck with it in your hand before turn 10, wishing that it was something playable. Even after turn 10, if your opponent has managed to keep most of their health total, it's still a dead card.
Also, Renomage doesn't have the aggression necessary to warrant a burst finish like Pyroblast. It's a grindy deck, where the early stages of the game are just spent trying to not die. So that means that more often than not, your opponent will go into the late game at full health. Your win by getting more value out of the late-game, not by rocking their face for 10 damage.
Pretty much anything else would be better. Renomage can't afford to have situational cards, like pyroblast, which very rarely get the intended value.
What this guy said. Pyroblast ends up being just a large removal in Reno Mage. I'd rather use Inkmaster for Flamestrike, Firelands Portal, or Kazakus spell.
Missing arcane intellect hard
I'd replace Elise with it. On my experience on Reno mage, Elise is useless here.
Elise is pretty much the best win condition you can ask for against virtually any Control match-up
This is pretty similar to a deck I built earlier, but Cabalist's Tome generated cards already in my deck, and as a result neither the Inkmaster Solia nor Kazakus effects would trigger. Be careful with that one.
Dont be stupid, casting cabalist's tome doesn't put any duplicates in your deck. The effects will still trigger.
Duplicates in your hand=/= duplicates in your deck.
