+180 on this deck? Is this a bad joke? I tried this deck many times and it's useless as a knife for hair washing -.-
Win conditions:
- enemy lost his/her internet connection
- enemy have a heart attack/crippling diarrhea/dengue fever/
- enemy kidnapped by ISIS
- enemy alt+tab for pr0n and forget to come back
- enemy is blind
- you're blind and you accidentally choose another of your deck
- enemy is a common Hungarian doctor, who can't tell the difference between his right and left arm
- enemy is you, from a parallel universe with this deck
This deck is garbage.
The only way you can win with this deck is if you get the perfect opening hand which is kabal lackey, a secret, medivh's valet and some type of draw which happens maybe 1/20 games. Not viable anywhere past rank 15 on ladder. My sample size is about 50 games, of which I've won 17.
About to try this deck since I've recently opened my second Kabal Crystal Runner, but I'd appreciate some theorycrafting talk if your open to it. I've been thinking that the early game of a deck like this is going to be strong, but the late game is going to have you run out of steam unless you have burst. I've been thinking that Archmage Antonidas is the perfect card to give you some burst in the late game if you save your kabal lackey's. What do you think?
I've just started playing it today as well. My last match I defeated a dragon priest with about 7 cards left. It was a very tense game and I found myself clinging on the whole match.
What ended up working for me was continuously applying pressure via minion damage (and forcing responses), as well as disrupting their turn very frequently with counter-spell and effigy (on drake or crystal runner ideally),
Pretty fun overall, although nearly impossible to win against pirate if you don't have removal spells and 1 drops to counter the snowballing aggression.
I'll see if I can get to rank 8 with it tonight.
EDIT: Antonidas may be viable to help out late game. It's a pretty clunky card but if it works a couple times it pays dividends. I always have to use the fireballs for removal, so it really cuts into burst. I may try this later
Basically this, deck is trash otherwise
I'm trying this deck with little changes. Effigy for another potion of polymorph, just because I love it.
Then i put off the two Babbling book for Thalnos and Acolyte for have more draw in my deck.
Not criticizing this deck in particular, but I found this deck doesn't work on a fundamental level.
The biggest issue is mage doesn't have tempo secrets like hunter, yet the stats of kabal lackey and kabal crystal runner all encourage an aggressive playstyle. Secondly, mage secrets are just bad, easy to play around and redundant, like mirror image and potion of polymorph triggering together on a 1 drop. The third problem, medivh's valet and ethereal arcanist, all work against your secrets actually being triggered. In a way, you are punished when your opponent plays into a secret. Ice block is too late game of a secret to work very well. The fourth problem is card draw. The sheer amount of secrets you need play and the cost reduction means after turn 4 you can play your whole hand and there's so little space to actually fit card draw in this deck. This is really bad because all the strategy of which secret to play just goes out the window when you only have 1 secret in your hand and you need to play it to keep up the tempo. This leads to the fifth problem. After turn 5 the cost reduction don't even matter. You just end up playing poor minions for a pay off of a 0 mana 5/5 which is nothing in a meta where players are making 1 mana 7/7s.
Agreed, well put
you just put in words all my thoughts when I saw this deck. Yes, it is interesting new deck, but old good tempo mage is just better
That's a good idea. TBH it might work out better with some kabal couriers as well.
Awesome deck, replaced one arcane blast with ice block and has worked rather well so far. with mulligan always ditch your secrets and anything over 3 mana, except for kirin tor mage and AI, aim to make huge value push with free secrets and manna warm to flood the board and go face then finish with burn. 80 percent win rate through 20 games, i've struggled against priest and hunter tho
I don't have 2 arcane blast spells because i've been unlucky getting them from packs and i don't think its a good idea to craft it since the new standard format will probably hit next major patch.
Everyone saying Arcane Blast is not needed, I totally disagree. You need the early burn for Pirate and Shaman aggro deck. If you cannot stop the early rush, you will never have time to set up your own side of the board. I am unsure about the 2x Kirin Tor Mage. I'm just not sure 2 are needed here. Also I kinda like the idea of maybe adding 1x Ice Block for the perma secret to help fuel this deck.
I am playing this deck (well one very similar) and it's actually winning lol. I am not sure how but it is winning. It has hardly any card draw, no healing and no sweepers for fast aggro decks. lol /shrug
So far very satisfied with this deck. Currently sitting at 16-7 with it. It's really fun see enemy get wrecked by secrets multiple times in a row that leads to their rage concedes. It has big problems against aggro warrior, but I didn't run into any serious problems vs jade decks
I like this deck very much, but made few changes and still testing. I've played around 20 games with various changes, but the main idea of secret mage stays. So, the main problem of this deck is the draw, basically if you draw only minions, you may lose, and if you draw only secrets, you may lose, but good draws happen more often and also you have to think for 2-3 turns in advance to counter opponent's moves. Now, what comes to wins. It's EU server. Freeze mages always lose, jade druids lose around 70% of time, but jade rogue usually wins. Pirate warrior wins because of fast tempo. All hunters I met, lost. Paladins usually lose. Shamans around 50/50. I met warlocks couple of times (both reno handlock) 1 win/1 lose. So, all in all, I think, maybe in 1-2 weeks this mage can be better, with proper working decklist.
Looks like a budget deck. Needs at least one legendary
Why do you say that it needs at least one legendary? Just because??? What legendary will make this deck much better? None of the Mage legendary minions work well with this deck. Maybe Bloodmage Thalnos instead of a Babbling Book?
