The patch is here and Small Time Buccaneer is nerfed. So what's the state of Pirate Warrior? Obviously the early game is far worse than before, and that's the weakness of the deck now, it's much harder to get good draws early, but that leaves room for some stronger cards later like Naga Corsair and Southsea Captain, so even though you no longer have a god tier 1 drop the deck is still very viable.
But who am I to talk all big and mighty? I might not be an amazing player, but ever since beta I've mained Warrior, with two small tournament wins playing mostly Control Warrior. So I've played every Warrior archetype there has been, during every patch. So trust me when I say Pirate Warrior is NOT dead, and will probably continue to sit among the most played classes.
Mulligan is very similar to before, you just have a bigger focus on getting 1 or 2 drops like Southsea Deckhand, N'Zoth's First Mate, Sir Finley Mrrgglton, Bloodsail Raider and Fiery War Axe. Also keeping a Dread Corsair with a Fiery War Axe is a really strong start, especially with the coin.
Edit: Hobart Grapplehammer is probably a good card to run since the buffs he gives are very strong and synergise very well with the deck, and would help a bit with the early game. I just don't have the card, because I don't want to craft a non-golden version (I have almost every Warrior card in gold) and therefore don't play it myself. It is definitely not needed for the deck to work, but if I had it I would replace it with a Naga Corsair or Mortal Strike
Post KOTFT Edit: As much as I hate the deck at this point, it's probably still viable. Replaced Sir Finley Mrrgglton with a second Southsea Captain, but you could put in Hobart Grapplehammer, Acherus Veteran, Bloodsail Corsair or almost anything else. It's almost unchanged, and it's as braindead as always. (Actually even more braindead, since you don't get to choose a new hero power). Looking forward to next year when the cards rotating out hopefully kill pirate warrior once and for all.
"I might not be an amazing player, but ever since beta I've mained Warrior, with two small tournament wins playing mostly Control Warrior. Now I play Pirate Warrior and my life changed completely. I'm the perfection of Hearthstone, the Boss of the ladder, the legend of legends."
;)
"much harder to get good draws early"
Why on earth in 100% of the game I face a N'Zoth's First Mate into Patch T1 ? This cancer is so ridiculous
Basic math. it is much harder since of the 10 1 drops the deck had now it only has 8. Totally incorrect math to asume 100% of games you get N'Zoth + Patches. Your math is ridiculous.
The hate is strong in this deck guide, very nice! With the nerf on the STB the pirates are still rocking good, so what should we nerf next?
Not taking sides, but your statement fails to refute the argument that 'reno decks are braindead' Even if there was evidence that Socloseagain plays pirates (which there is, in fact, none presented so far), it would not really make an argument either way for the intelligence required to play a Reno deck. After all, it is possible that a goldfish can play a pirate deck and a reno deck is braindead.
Tried it before the nerf and quickly went back to Naga Corsair. I find Hobart to be a bad card. Rather play Acidic Ooze if you HAVE to do this.
I've come into a crushing problem with this deck, although mine isn't complete, I keep coming into the same situation that makes me lose the game instantly, which is anti-synergy between N'zoth's First Mate, and Bloodsail Cultist. When I already have a much better weapon out, like an upgraded Arcanite Reaper, I get these two cards in my hand and they're literally unplayable. I can't play the N'zoths because the 1/3 weapon is way worse, and I can't play the Bloodsail Cultist because it requires a pirate on the field, and the only pirate I can play is N'zoth's... I've lost, maybe 10 games in a row because of this
Or maybe I'm just REALLY bad at drawing pirates.
You dont play nzoth mate but you definately do play cultist even if no weapon upgrade will be provided. Youre an aggro deck not control where all you care about is value.
Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I get too caught up in the combos sometimes.
Just learn the game by not doing "Me no trade, me go face.", it's lame...
fun
i didn't have a leeroy so i put in rocketeer and i dont have patches so i put in a brawl i guess execute could work as well, cause fuck taunts.
thx for mulligan its really hard deck to play :)
I found this deck pretty strong in current meta and climbed from rank 19 to rank 8 for ~2.5 hours.
I run 2x Southsea Captain and 1x Naga Corsair
Check this out
Bullshit deck. Even with classic cards it gets countered easily. Crap squared 1000.
+[card]Hobart Grapplehammer[/card]
-[card]Southsea Captain[/card]
works fine for me
:(
