Hello, My name is Austin and I recently thought of this deck. Now at first some card choices might seem a little weird but this deck has proven to be amazing even in the current meta! I made this deck at rank 13 and got all the way down to rank 4 with ease having a few hard match ups but this deck can prevail!
Card Choices
x2 Arcane Blast - This is a very strong card. Used in almost all mage decks, It is very great against Zoolock which is extremely popular in the current meta.
x2 Arcane Missiles - Also a very standard card seen in many mage decks, Very good 2nd turn card and also has amazing synergy with Flamewaker
x2 Mana Wyrm - The best 1 drop in all Mage decks, This card is the best 1st turn card and is very good to have, Typically your opponent will not be able to get it off the board with-in the first turn so you can gain a lot of benefits with it!
x2 Cult Sorcerer - A very good low drop card, The extra Spell damage really helps even in the late game.
x2 Frostbolt - Very good card, Has the ability to stop big minions for a turn, Kill minions that you need off the board, or even burn the rest of health that you need to win!
x2 Sorcerer's Apprentice - One of the best tech cards for the deck, Can be used early on to gain a quick edge over your opponent or in the late game to get over problematic cards or burn for a lot of damage.
x2 Arcane Intellect - This is your draw power of the deck because you can run out of cards because the deck does run a lot of spells, Also really nice in the early stages of the game.
x2 Flamewaker - My favorite card in the deck just because it synergies with every spell, It is super efficient against Zoo or Aggro decks
x2 Forgotten Torch - Very good card, Amazing for taking our minions and then shuffling the extra 6 damage burn makes it that much better!
x2 Fireball - What good is a mage deck without fire ball? Good for burning the extra health needed for lethal as well as taking out big problematic cards.
x1 Polymorph - This card is not played as much as it used to be but it can still be played at one. Very good ageist annoying cards, But it is too cloggy to the deck running two.
x2 Water Elemental - This is your standard minion to play, it is very effective having the freeze effect.
x2 Azure Drake - Standard in almost all mage decks, Has the extra draw and Spell damage to help you get ahead in a match.
x2 Faceless Summoner - Helpful against aggro and zoo in the late game, Also efficient for trading the random 3 drop.
x2 Flamestrike - You might be asking yourself " Why the hell are you using 2 Flamestrikes", Well the reason is simple... ZOO! In a game I always find myself saying "Dang I really wish I had a Flamestrike". Also this will catch your opponent off guard and can really swing games into your favor.
x1 Ragnaros the Firelord - Another card that you might be confused about but in the late game it really comes in clutch! I also find it winning me games sometimes, So a very useful card.
That's really the deck, Please up vote is so more people can see it and let me know how you do with it in the comments!
If I get 50+ Up votes I will make a Full guide on how to play the deck!
I liked this deck, but ragnaros is really necessary?? Yeah is very good for late game, but the meta is have aggro decks, in thinks is very heavy card, what card is better for put in this place??
From my experience, you already have plenty options to deal with aggro. The Ragnaros is more about an instant 8 damage + counterspell (because it force the opponent to use a spell to deal with it immediately). I'm liking the Ragnaros there, but if you want another another card on its place, you could use Sylvanas (for the board pressure) or Antonidas (for snowballing hard) or the new Arcane Giant (cheap board presence).
this is actually rly bad in eu (where people know how to play) because of all the agressive decks, no chances
Edit : after two days of testing, i can confirm that it is unplayable
Agreed, they all get rekked fast to the extent that I don't see more than 1 every 10-15 games now.
WHERES OUR GUIDE??? its way past 50 upvotes
In my opinion, replacing Arcane Blast is fine. I run a slightly different version of Tempo Mage (with Yogg so the list contains a few differencies minionwise mostly) and only play one Arcane Blast and replaced the second one by Mirror Image which proved to be life-saving many times ! Of course it doesn't clear a flame imp or so but can help you protect an important minion and buy you enough time to get a better solution. So you could switch it with 2 of them. I also put a counter-spell but tempowise I believe that it isn't always the best card to play but can often protect your Rag for example.
Now I think that the Flamewakers are hardly replaceable to be honest. However you can try to put 2 Spellslinger perhaps but... well the effect has nothing to do with the potential board clear or damage push that the Flamewakers can provide. However it won't perform so well but at least you can try to play the deck !
With my list I currently have a 78% winrate (32-9) but need to do some more testing and have absolutely no pretention haha But I hope that my advice could help you a bit :)
This Deck is really fun to play with. Any ideas about mixing cards from Karazhan into it?
Like replace one Faceless Summoner with a Firelands Portal
I think Firelands Portal should replace at least one Faceless Summoner because it has synergy with Mana Wyrm, Cult Sorcerer, Sorcerer's Apprentice, Flamewaker, and Azure Drake. On the other hand Faceless Summoner has very little synergy.
I suggest an arcane explosion swapping with 1 flamestrike. Tempo mage in this meta has a lot of spell power.
Can I replace Rag with Antonidas?
Any replacement for second Arcane Blast?
I put arcane explosion :)
I swapped out one of the arcane missles for an ooze.
Should I put Thaurissan instead of 1 Faceless Summoner?
I've been playing Tempo Mage ever since Flamewaker came out, built 8 iterations of it drawing from other guides and my own experience... gotta say... this is the best Tempo Mage I've played yet. Crisp, clean, and extremely efficient. Well done and thank you.
Note: I use Rhonin instead of Ragnaros the Firelord because Rhony is my favorite card in the game, and while he still works well, Rag is probably the overall better choice.
Is it acceptable to replace one cult sorcerer for thalnos or do you think the stats are better than the card draw in this deck?
cult sorceror and no c'thun? we can come up with something better
Tempo mage doesn't need c'thun, It uses cult sorcerer because it's a direct upgrade to Kobold Geomancer.
Why Ragnaros and not Antonidas? doesn't have Antonidas more synergy in this deck?
While Antonidas can be powerful, in the current meta he can be very slow, often playing him will land you 1 fireball at best before he's taken down, and that's if you're lucky.
He's a good card, but in tempo mage where you need to have constant control over the board, he's a bit slow.
