Hi guys, thought i would do a write up as this deck i made has been getting some interest. A little info about me as a hearthstone player - I am a multiple time legend player, but i have recently stopped grinding to legend as i do not enjoy the state of the game.
I play classes that I have still yet to golden as my progression whilst hitting rank 5 every month. This was the first deck i tried after Karazhan - and i do believe it sits well in the meta, it feels good to play and i have a great winrate this season.
I managed to hit 5 with ease before stopping playing - every opponent expects resurrect priest on ladder and it catches them offguard when i start playing my overstated 1, 2 and 3 drops.
The deck works well as it is the most pre-active deck you can play with priest. it does have re-active cards like any other priest deck, but they come after you have seized the board as a way to maintain board control. Without board this deck loses - so you have to mulligan hard for your 1 and 2 drops.
I will talk about some of the card choices. I originally had medivh as a late game drop, although it did win games and feels good to play (when you are ahead or on an empty board) it is very much a win more card. I cut it for Ragnaros the firelord as it is a great re-active and pro-active card that does not need to be held in hand.
I decided to not include Brann - although he brings the deck great value, I already have enough cards in my hand that are re-active. His greatest benefit comes from using him with historian in control matchups - but i find that i received more than enough value using historian by itself in the few control matchups i faced. I originally had him in with 1 blackwing technician, but i decided to cut him. With 2 entombs, ysera and 2 historians i have everything i need against control.
I have seen people comment on why i do not have 2 bookworms - my reasoning is that once again it is a re-active card, and i already have 2 re-active 6 mana cards. It is a fantastic card but I only feel the need for one - which leads me onto the next card i want to talk about.
I dont actually have it in the list but i have been testing taking out 1 entomb for the good old cabal shadow priest. This is the reason i would not run 2 book worms in this deck.I thought about it and i realized that the majority of targets i had been killing with bookworm - i could be stealing for the same mana and a more intimidating body. I kept thinking - what great value the book worm gives, but i could be getting even more stealing that minion. I am still going back and forth between 2 x entomb and 1 x entomb, 1 x cabal.
The deck must be played with tempo in mind early turns. Always make value trades and fight for board control at all times. You win with this deck by out valuing your opponents and then controlling the board with your reactive cards once you have a board. When you have board contol - it is good to go for aggressive dragons from netherspite to put pressure on the opponent.
Thanks for the interest in my deck - i will add to the write up and include mulligans in the coming days when i have a bit more free time
SECRET AGENT, COMING THROUGH!
This is a great deck. But o replaced twilight guardian with twilight drake, because the stats i get off those are usually much more impressive and not so reliant on dragons.
I do not think rend is a good replacement. He kills 1 legendary minion, most decks dont run any legendaries and you already have 2x SW death, 2x entomb, 1x SW pain and 1x bookwyrm for removal. Chillmaw can clear a board and is good against the meta. I do not run excavted as this is a minion heavy deck where your win condition is to seize and keep board advantage. Excavated cannot be played when you are ahead
I'm curious what nerf you're referring to?
None of the cards in this deck were touched and this only made certain combo and aggro decks suffer. At this point you need to put out multiple big things to play around the single Hex or other polymorph effects. This deck is weaker than the others because it doesn't have a lot of card draw in the early game without a good board setup or a good trade situation with Turn 6 Trade+Northshire+Holy Nova.
As far as Harrison Jones goes, you'll only use him on Atiesh anymore, or to break a big Rogue weapon. Since 3/4 of your games will be into Midrange shaman anymore, which doesn't run Medivh, it's honestly up to you, but it'll be a 5/4 for 5 that doesn't do anything more often than not.
It literally saved me vs. hunter. Maybe another taunt like sunwalker, but nothing really replaces it.
You could try Baron Geddon or Bog Creeper
Excavated Evil, literally does the exact same thing, but not as good
Honestly your best bet is a Sunwalker if you're worried about cycling. It'll never cycle out, but Bog Creeper has a bigger impact on the board than SunWalker.
If the meta were more aggro-heavy AND you weren't trying to maintain a board Excavated would be good...
I think the closest you can get is an Abomination.
Upside:
1. It's way cheaper to craft and it never rotates out
2. It's a taunt
3. Better mana price which makes it exellent against zoo/murloc
4. You get very similar effect
5. Effect triggers even w/o having dragon in hand!
Downside:
1. it is not a dragon - you don't want run out of dragons
2. sucks against patron warrior, which I happen to encounter every once in a while
3. hurts not only minions but both character aswell and sometimes you can't really afford 2 face dmg (especially against face hunter)
Good deck for priest just im thinking about shadowform
This is a tempo deck - i recommend keeping the corrupter, it is a great tempo swing. This deck wins by seizing board and keeping it. If i was going to put in justicar i would sub her for sylvanas - but i do not recommend that change at all.
Crap deck. Gets wrecked by aggro easily.
Nope, you just butthurt :)
And unlucky. Even with good mulligan (since there's only 1 card in the 1-5 cost of the curve that deals well into aggro) it's hard to keep tempo into aggro. At that point just grin and bear it and play again.
What people who net-deck expect out of these decks is a free rank. This deck archetype is NOT easy to play and you WON'T win 80% of your games... It's not faceroll like aggro decks and not intuitive like midrange decks. It's not a combo deck where you wait for all the pieces and win. Dragon priest plays like a tempo deck in the beginning and then control in the late.
You don't play this deck to win, you play it to play Dragon Priest because it's a fun and engaging deck type to play.
17 games in a row against aggro shaman. This game has never been more fun
Fantastic deck I've been climbing up the ladder faster than ever since I've started using it. I am missing a few cards from it, but some of the replacements I put in it have worked very well.
I subbed Rend Blackhand for Sylvanas, Bog Creeper for Chillmaw and Sen'Jin Shieldmasta for the second Twilight Guardian.
I haven't really been in too many situations where sylvanas is a good play, but Rend has saved my win streek multiple times. Opponent plays C'thun, Rend it. Opponent plays Deathwing, Rend it. Opponent plays Ysera, Rend it. He's very versatile and if he's behind a taunt he can really help make up for some damage you couldn't put out at the start.
Bog Creeper stops enemy minions in their tracks and doesn't damage your other minions when it dies, plus you'll find Chillmaw off of Netherspite Historian every 3 games or so.
While not a dragon Shieldmasta can be more reliable than twilight guardian if you don't have any other dragons in your hand and isn't as weak to silence.
Also, though there aren't a ton of spells in the deck if you save priest of the feast and a few spells if you go into fatigue he can really help you stay afloat long enough to finish off your opponent.
EDIT: After playing with this deck a bit more I found Medivh to be an awkward play in the deck as it lost much of its potential value if you already played your holy novas and entombs. I swapped him out for chromaggus and have had better success, and I see the deck's creator has swapped Ragnaros in. I've found chromaggus to work best if played on turn 9 or 10 and be immediately followed by 1 or 2 power word: shields to ensure you get some draws in. The +2 health on him tends to make him stick around much longer too. Getting an entomb, Shadow Word: Death, or even a Netherspite Historian duplicated can be a life saver in late game.
play a more cancerous deck then.. and be like 90% of the other players on HS ladder
welcome to all priest decks... hence why they don't have much in this meta at the moment. I'm glad lightbomb went away though.
can i replace chillmaw?
Very good decks. however i remove Ysera + Medivh, the Guardian with Brann Bronzebeard + Brann . because this is very easy to get Medivh, the Guardian from the opponent by Entomb (everyone use this card now), Ysera can get from Netherspite Historian. run very well so far 6-1
