Hi,
I'm Danny and is a regular Legend player, hitting Legend every season. With the rise and dominance of Mid range Shaman, I wanted to create a deck to counter it instead of joining the dark side. Shaman doesn't have much counters and even freeze mage is only 5% favored against it. To counter Shaman, you really have to tech in cards against them. I wanted to create a deck that's good against shaman and still holds a good to fair win rate against other decks. I have played around with other classes but finalize on C'thun warrior with two Tech cards, Revenge and Baron Geddon. There's another tech card worth considering which is Harrison Jones but I can talk more about it later.
My stats were 18-3 hitting Legend with two losses where one game was due to unlucky draws and another to unlucky Rng. I believe i should've won those two games, leading to an even higher win rate. I have replays for all my games so I'll try to post some or all later if there's enough interest.
I entered Legend at rank 381 as shown below.

Use and time your board clears carefully as Shamans can refill the board the next turn very easily. I also used my health as a resource as Shamans don't have the burst they used to.
Replays at Legend Rank
1) Against Maly Druid - https://hsreplay.net/replay/s5PP6sRnSgouQAgV2nQEML
- He did not know what to do against me and forced to concede.
2) Against Shaman - uploaded Oct. 22 - https://hsreplay.net/replay/rkVZGtHnBVPzA9MvJitkUS
3) Against Dragon Priest - https://hsreplay.net/replay/j4zWceeBqhPRrYXdMdFc8E
4) Control Priest - https://hsreplay.net/replay/39t9GXAQGAY5kBxXKoiipY
- Toughest match so far in Legend. Not knowing what type of cards he's running, and his sylvannas surviving two brawls gave little hope in winning. Watch and analyze the plays in the last 15 turns. I recommend pausing before I make my plays and see if you'll do the same. Timing when to play the cards was very critical here.
5) Tempo Mage - Surviving 6 fireballs and more
6) Lost to Maly Druid but look at his start with innervate and ramp.
7) Lost to Totemic Might Shaman - Apparently revenge and baron geddon are not good against 4 health totems.
8) Shaman
9) More Shaman - Where playing aggressive shaman doesn't pay off.

3) Vs. Rogue - My computer crashed, losing turn 5 to rope. Part 1 - Part 2

7) Vs. Purple
8) Vs. Fibonacci Part 1------------- Part 2
Strategy and Mulligan
Shaman -
A) Fiery War Axe
B) Disciple of C'thun, Ravaging Ghoul. Keep 1 without the coin. Both if you have the coin or have War Axe.
C) Keep Slam if you have any of the above cards.
With these cards, you should be able to challenge any early game cards shaman throws at you.
Control early threats from Shaman and prevent them from snowballing. Do not waste premium removals (Shield slam & Exe) on weak minions unless it provides a huge tempo swing. I usually use shield slam & Execute only on thing from belows, fire elementals, or thunderbluffs. Thing from below and Fire ele can be dealt without premium removals since they have 5 health BUT Thunderbluff is more difficult. I usually save one premium removal in hand for thunderbluff. Use your AOE and boar clears wisely. Don't use them on 3 or 4 minions/totems that are not causing much threat. If you are not close to dying, taking 4-5 damage from their minions/totems is fine. Bait out their big guys.
The faster(aggressive) they play, the better my odds in winning because they play into the board clears. They are more dangerous when they slow play and into fatigue.
Against aggro - Control their early flood of minions with removal and aoes. They will run out of resources and you win.
Against control- play the fatigue war, armor up and outlast outlast them. Be conservative with your C'thun against priest/warrior. Usually, don't play it unless you can lethal them or you need to prevent their lethal on board.
Against CW - Play the fatigue game. don't draw cards. save harrison for gorehowl only. Sometimes i don't even play harrison to minimize the one draw. Play C'thun for final blow (when both players are in fatigue and you're c'thun + their next fatigue damage will kill them).
Difficult Match ups
Midrange Hunter and Control Warrior.
Against Control Warrior, you will need to sub in Harrison for their gorehowl and maybe doomcaller. This will make the deck weak against other archetypes (shamans) so I don't recommend it unless you are facing a lot of warrior.
Midrange Hunter has always been a bad match up for Control warriors. At least there's only one call of the wild these days.
Substitutions
Revenge or Barron Geddon can be subbed by Harrison Jones
If you have questions/comments, write it below and I'll try to answer them.
With enough likes or +
- I'll create a more thorough discussion about playing the deck and against classes.
- Post more replays
- Discussion about tech cards
- Video game play or discussion
Also, as you noticed, this is not a super unique deck list as C'Thun warrior have been around.
Thanks for stopping by.

How can it be a meta crusher if it is total trash in the current meta?
Have to agree with this. Just went 2-6 with this deck and 5 of those losses I was pretty much dead by turn 4 or 5 without even being able to play a card. I don't mind losing with a deck, variance screws us all sometimes, but it is not fun losing with a deck that can't even react at all to your opponent before it gets bursted down.
I know small sample size and could just be bad draws but this deck got completely run over before I could even do anything against the more aggressive decks on the ladder.
It is not trash at all, currently 22-9 with this deck in Nov. Including a 100% against Shaman, I would say it's in-experience. Every turn in CW has a huge impact on your likelihood to win, consider looking through replays. Also think it's a bit harsh to call a deck trash in the current meta because you can't play it.
Deck still works great this November season according to friends and posters here who's using it. I haven't been playing much with it since I've been busy and wanted to try something new. If I keep bumping into shamans and I start losing then i'll switch back to this Meta Crusher :)
If you're not facing a lot of shamans, you can swap out harrison or baron for acolyte of pain.
If you are facing a lot of control, you can swap in brann and/or doomcaller.
Except not really, the deck is outdated trash. Loses to rogues almost 100%
The deck is only as good as the player.
Thanks for the update and glad it's still doing well on ladder for you. Good stats against Shamans. Not sure why so many complain here about they can't beat shamans with the deck.
I had problems before and I think I know why - it's because a lot of ppl can't get the "control warrior feel". I had problems vs Shaman, and probably still have, because of the decision making invloved, revolving around when to use dmg burst and removal.
All in all, it's not that hard. I've ran a similar deck, but without 2x Crazed Worshipper and without 1xRevenge, playing Emperor Thaurissan and 2x Bash instead. That deck was too cautious and I have, in general, played way too catious, trying to get as much value of my cards as possible, which led me not to useSmash, because I wouldn't get a card draw, which was a mistake. Also, C'Thun can - and should - be played earlier. Unless it's a control mirror, you can go aggressive etc.
Complex stuff regarding details, but those details are what really matters. After getting more C'Thun activators and getting more aggressive with Old God himself, it stared to get better for me (currently at a win streak on rank 15 after droppig hard with old decklist), as I'd lose every match vs Shaman and Maly Druids (Hunters, suprisingly, are easy for me), and now it seems I actually win.
Sorry for the long post, but your vids really helped, I'm giving you a well deserved upvote for the deck and, from now on, I'll be on the lookout for your decks/advice.
How can I replace Crazed Worshipper?
Either with doomcaller or elise
This deck is so good. Went from rank 16 to 12. Currently at 12-1 lost against control warrior on my first game so I made these changes which got me a 12 win streak.
-1 slam -1 Harrison -1 crazed worshiper
+1 Elise star seeker +1 acolyte of pain +1 doomcaller
These changes make it better against control. You don't need to change Harrison I just changed him because I don't have him.
Haven't played much control warrior last season but according to data reports, my deck have a better win rate against shamans. it's also not as reactive as CW as my deck have minions to drop.
People have reported this deck is working well on ladder climb this season.
Why are you not running elise/brann? if you do not have a win condition vs aggro/control
Against aggro. Control their early flood of minions with removal and aoes. They will run out of resources and you win.
Against control, play the fatigue war, armor up. You will outlast them. Don't play C'thun against priest/warrior unless you can lethal them or they have lethal on board.
Against CW - Play fatigue game, don't draw cards. save harrison for gorehowl only. Sometimes i don't even play harrison to minimize the one draw. Play C'thun for final blow (when both players are in fatigue and you're c'thun + their next fatigue damage will kill them).
I am honestly a bit mystified that you're having such success against midrange shaman. This deck certainly does well against shaman if things line up well, and probably does better than any of my other three warrior decks. But it's still a huge crap shoot. If I don't have perfect draws, shamans are too damned fast.
When things do work, it is extremely satisifying, but your track record does not in any way resemble my experiences so far.
Great deck. Crushing Shaman and Mage players feels so good.
Don't own Shield Slam... Baron.... Sylvanis... Harrison .... any subs?
is this the worst deck ever ?
this list is solid except I think revenge is a really shitty card
http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/658872-s31-75-wr-cthun-warrior-my-way#c1
This is the list I'm running but I sub revenge and geddon for doomcaller and rag. I've actually been finding I've been playing more shaman counters on ladder than actual shaman.
geddon is definitely great vs shaman so you should put it in if you see them too much
Hey thanks a bunch for the deck, been a breeze climbing thusfar. Only real losses are the one's that you draw terribly from the start. nice to have a change of a pace kinda deck.
